On the day when many Americans were finalizing their tax returns and mailing payments, a Macon family welcomed baby John Thomas Cote into the world, and he was recognized as the first baby born on April 18th “Tax Day” at Atrium Health Navicent The Medical Center. As this year’s Tax Day Baby, John was awarded $1,529 for his Path2College 529 Plan to help him achieve his future educational goals.

“We are both teachers and we value higher education,” said John’s mother, Jessica Arnold. “This is remarkable and thank you.”

The hospital and the state of Georgia’s Path2College 529 Plan partner each year to raise awareness about the importance of saving for college and financial planning, along with the advantages of saving in the Path2College 529 Plan.

“We are excited to help John jump-start his college savings with this contribution, and we hope that many more families with young children will use tax time to begin planning for their children’s education,” said Georgia Student Finance Commission President Lynne Riley.

This is the eighth year Atrium Health Navicent has recognized a Tax Day Baby.

“Bringing a new life into this world is a joyous occasion and Atrium Health Navicent is honored to help baby John and his parents celebrate. We’re proud to partner with the Path2College 529 Plan to provide him with a head start on saving for college or career training,” said Atrium Health Navicent President Delvecchio Finley. “Children are our future, and anything we can do to expand opportunities and encourage education brightens the future for the entire community.”
